On the mechanism of 5-bromodeoxyuridine induction of prolactin synthesis in rat pituitary tumor cells
GH12C1, a clonal strain of rat pituitary tumor cells in culture (GH cells), does not produce detectable amounts of prolactin. 5-Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdUrd), the thymidine analogue, at sublethal concentrations (3-5 microgram/ml) induces prolactin synthesis in these cells. BrdUrd also induces prolactin synthesis in F1BGH12C1 cells, a BrdUrd resistant (BrdUrdr) substrain isolated from GH12C1 cells....
متن کاملSynthesis of proteochondroitin sulfate by normal, nanomelic, and 5-bromodeoxyuridine-treated chondrocytes in cell culture.
Chondrocytes grown in cell culture from micromelic chick sterna and 5-bromodeoxyuridine-treated normal cells showed reduced incorporation of sulfate into hyaluronidase-sensitive material as compared to normal chondrocytes. Proteochondroitin sulfate synthesized by normal embryonic chick chondrocytes in cell culture was heterogeneous on chromatography. The major chromatographic component was spec...
متن کاملInduction of Apoptosis in Lung Cancer Cells by TRAIL and L-leucyl-L-leucine Methyl Ester
Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily that induces apoptosis in many tumor cells. Previous studies suggested that TRAIL treatment might also cause release of lysosomal cathepsin proteases to the cytosol, thus further promoting apoptosis. L-leucyl-L-leucine methyl ester (LeuLeuOMe) is a lysosome-destabilizing agent th...
متن کاملInduction of Phenolic Compounds is Affected by Boron Supply in Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis L. ) Cells
Boron (B) is a non-metal micronutrient which is essential for plants growth and development. Formation of boron complex with cell wall matrix and phenolic compounds is a definite influence of boron in physiological process. It has been suggested that B-toxicity and deficiency may induce excess production of reactive oxygen species thereby promote defense responses by antioxidant enzymes or non-...
متن کاملSuppression of Pigmentation in Mouse Melanoma Cells by 5-bromodeoxyuridine
Low concentrations (1-3 microg/ml) of 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) reversibly suppress pigmentation in a highly pigmented clone (B(5)59) of cultured B16 mouse melanoma cells. We have found that unpigmented cells (clone C(3)471), derived by long-term culture of B(5)59 cells in 1 microg of BrdU/ml, were completely amelanotic with no biochemically or cytochemically detectable tyrosinase activity or ...
